John Ashton Lynn was born 11/10/1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He was the oldest of three children, and was raised in the Presbyterian church. He graduated from Park School for Boys in 1961, and in his own words, “when faced with the alternatives of military service, college, work or starvation, I chose Kenyon College in Gambier, OH and despite sporadic attendance in class, escaped with a B.A. in Economics in 1965.”
He earned nine varsity letters in baseball, basketball, and football and still holds two baseball records at Kenyon. After graduating, John enlisted in the Army and attended infantry Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA. Commissioned in a non-infantry branch he became the Sports Officer for the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. He served a two-year tour of duty before his honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant. In retrospect, he wrote, “I still wonder why I jumped out of perfectly good airplanes?!”
It was while he was in the military that John began to read the Bible, and attended a local prayer group with some then well-known teachers. It wasn’t until 1967, when he took a 36-hour foundational Bible class that he became enthusiastic in studying the Word of God.
For the next nineteen years John worked with, and was ordained by a U.S., evangelical Christian ministry. He served in many leadership capacities, including five years as CEO of their college. During this time he authored three books: Will the Real You Please Stand Up, Will the Real You Please Remain Standing, and Living in the Eye of the Storm.
Having become aware of both doctrinal and practical corruption that had crept into the organization that he had so diligently served, John began to speak up but to no avail, and he left in 1987. In 1988, he and several associates formed Christian Educational Services, a non-profit tax-exempt Indiana corporation. Its purpose was to further the gospel by providing educational services, including biblical research publications, and teachings. CES has since changed its name to Spirit and Truth Fellowship.
John co-authored four books: One God and One Lord, Don’t Blame God, Is There Death After Life, and The Gift of Holy Spirit,as well as numerous booklets teaching God’s Word on varied topics. He also produced an audio seminar giving a thorough expose on the book of Romans. John traveled extensively throughout the United States and six continents teaching, and developing gatherings of like-minded believers for home fellowships, i.e., churches.
In 2010 John started The Living Truth Fellowship where he produced several video classes called; One Day with the Creator a foundational class, The End Times, and Jesus Christ the Diameter of the Ages. His last book is an overview of the administrations of scripture titled, The Purpose of the Ages,
After seven years, John won the battle over bone marrow cancer, but succumbed to Covid-19, on September 24, 2021. He was animated and a bright light, a very generous man, and extremely quick witted as well as humorous. He believed the best of everyone, was very much loved, and he is sorely missed. His legacy however, will continue to touch hearts and change lives for many generations to come.
